Managing Partner

Cam McKechnie

“Cam McKechnie is an experienced and thoughtful counsel who provided me with valuable advice related to a dispute my company was having with a Canadian company located in British Columbia. His advice was spot on and I highly recommend him.”

Biography

In 1973, Cam obtained a Masters degree in economics from the University of Western Ontario, and subsequently worked as an energy economist with both the National Energy Board and the B.C. Energy Commission (now the B.C. Utilities Commission) until he returned to school at U.B.C. in 1981 to obtain a law degree. He was called to the bar in 1985 and initially practiced as a corporate commercial solicitor, primarily in the areas of banking, commercial transactions and private corporations.

In the mid-nineties, he moved to the dark side, opened the firm of McKechnie & Company, and became a barrister. He has practiced as a commercial litigator ever since, specializing in construction litigation, collections, and property-related disputes such as issues about real estate transactions and realtors and disputes about easements, boundaries and encroachments. When not practicing law and trying to keep up with his daughter, Cam enjoys reading history, oil painting, travelling, boating and skiing.

Cam has appeared in all courts of British Columbia but now limits his practice to matters in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. He also has extensive experience in mediating or arbitrating disputes as an alternative to litigation.
