Small Claims Disputes

In BC, most civil disputes for amounts up to $35,000 fall under Small Claims Court jurisdiction.

McKechnie & Company provides legal representation for many small claims cases.  Given the size of small claims cases though, it’s often uneconomical to hire a lawyer. Fortunately, Small Claims Court has procedures that are simplified for self-represented parties.

Note that many civil disputes for $5,000 or less fall under the jurisdiction of the Civil Resolution Tribunal. The CRT’s procedures are simplified even further and much of the process is online. You can find more information at www.civilresolutionbc.ca .
